How to Use a Sheet Mask (The Do's and Don'ts)

Sheet masks have been all the rage in skincare lately. But there's more to using a sheet mask than just slapping it on your face and letting it work its magic. There are certain do's and don'ts you should follow to get the most out of your sheet mask experience.

Do: Choose the Right Sheet Mask for Your Skin Type

Not all sheet masks are created equal. There are different masks for different skin types, so it's important to choose the right one for you. If you have dry skin, look for a mask that contains hyaluronic acid or glycerin. These ingredients will help hydrate and plump your skin. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, look for a mask that contains salicylic acid or tea tree oil. These ingredients will help control oil and reduce inflammation.

Don't: Apply Your Makeup BEFORE Using a Sheet Mask

One of the worst things you can do is apply your makeup before using a sheet mask. Your sheet mask won't be able to penetrate your skin properly if there's a layer of foundation, powder, or concealer in the way. Plus, who wants to ruin a perfectly good sheet mask with makeup residue? So save yourself the trouble and do your skincare routine before doing your makeup.

Do: Follow the Instructions on the Package

If the sheet mask package says to leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then that's how long you should leave it on! It might be tempting to leave it on longer because you think it will work better, but that's not the case. In fact, leaving it on for too long can actually irritate your skin. So play it safe and stick to the recommended time frame.

Don't: Throw Away the Excess Serum in the Package

Once you take the sheet mask out of its packaging, there's usually a bunch of serum left behind. You might be tempted to just toss it out, but don't! This serum is packed with active ingredients that are great for your skin. So instead of throwing it away, rub it into your neck and chest area. You can also put it in a small jar and save it for later use

Do: Moisturise After Using a Sheet Mask

After using a sheet mask, your face will probably feel pretty moisturised. But don't skip the moisturiser! Applying a light layer of moisturiser will help seal in all those beneficial ingredients from the mask and keep your skin hydrated throughout the day.

That's all there is to using a sheet mask! Now go out there and enjoy some me-time with a nice relaxing sheet mask!
